9-year-old Pinoy Chess Champion, slept at the airport for 3 days! Travel alone to Thailand before father follows.

9-year-old Bince Rafael Operiano brought home a trophy and four medals at the 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship held November 4-12, 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand. But the experience of the young native of Oas, Albay was not easy before he achieved success for the town.

Since the budget for our hero to participate in the said competition is low, his parents had to find a sponsor to buy a plane ticket and other expenses for his stay in Thailand for a few days. While waiting for their plane ticket, Bince and his father stayed and slept at the airport for 3 days.

This is what Albay 3rd District Representative Fernando "Didi" Cabredo shared in his Facebook post. "Due to limited funds and while waiting for the plane ticket sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Bince and his father spent 3 nights at the airport with those benches as their bed. The little boy had to travel first to Thailand without his father, Mr . Ben Operiano." Said Congressman.

Our stoner lost his previous battles because of missing his father. At a young age, he couldn't handle being away from his parents while fighting in another country. According to the parents of some participants, they saw Bince crying on one side. Not long after, his father, Mang Ben, also arrived and the 9-year-old champion regained his courage in the fight.
