Supreme Court announces 2023 Bar Examinations in September 17, 20, and 24

SCHEDULE, COVERAGE, AND OTHER PRELIMINARY MATTERS RELATING TO THE 2023 BAR EXAMINATIONS

The Constitution beholds the Supreme Court as the guardian of the legal profession. In its continued pursuit for Bar reforms, the Court binds itself to institutionalize the technological measures already brilliantly introduced in the last two Bar Examinations, and ultimately have the same ensconced as the new norm. The 2023 Bar Examinations shall thus proceed as it is now — digitalized and regionalized, with a further-condensed schedule and carefully-streamlined scope for administrative efficiency.

Schedule

Operating under the aim of expediting the admission of successful examinees to the legal profession, the 2023 Bar Examinations shall be held in the month of Se: tember.

Barring any unforeseeable circumstance or fortuitous event that might warrant rescheduling, the 2023 Bar Examinations shall be conducted in three (3) non-consecutive days, in a span of eight (8) days:

September 17, Sunday, September 20, Wednesday, and September 24, Sunday.

The 2023 Bar Examinations will be place on September 17, 20, and 24, according to a statement made by the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday.

The 2023 Bar Chairperson, Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando, noted that the shorter examination period will let law students to refocus their studies on “fourth-year review classes rather than on post-graduate Bar review.”

Additionally crucial, it will result in lower review expenses… More crucially, Hernando added on the third day of the Northern Luzon Regional Convention of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, “the new members of the Bar will have an opportunity for early employment and contribution to society” (IBP).

The number of core courses in the tests was decreased from eight to six in addition to the earlier schedule and fewer days.

As a result of the close affinities between these two domains in legal practice, Hernando explained, “Commercial Law and Taxation Law have been combined.”

In the meantime, the High Court has decided to administer all upcoming Bar Examinations digitally, according to Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, after 9,000 candidates successfully completed the recently concluded localized and digitalized 2022 Bar examinations in 14 local testing centers nationwide.

He said that this is “in keeping with the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations’ (SPJI) commitment toward operating all of the judiciary’s adjudicative and administrative systems digitally” from 2022 to 2027.

“Many people have been prevented from accessing the courts due to the high expense of litigation and the lack of publicly available information on the courts, judicial processes, and legal aid,” claimed Gesmundo.
