Understanding the Aphelion Phenomenon to Avoid Being Consumed by the Circulating Hoaxes 

Aphelion is one of the many different astronomical occurrences. On WhatsApp, there were hoaxes about this that claimed it made the weather on Earth extremely chilly. Is that accurate? Andi Prince, a researcher at the National Aeronautics and Space Institute (LAPAN Research Center), vehemently refuted the notion that the Aphelion event may cause Earth to become extremely cold. 

Processed from LAPAN's official announcement, Andi characterized the Aphelion phenomena as the situation in which the Earth is the farthest away from the Sun on Monday (24/1/2022). Since 1800, the Aphelion phenomenon has always occurred in July. "Earth has reached its farthest distance from the Sun on July 4, 2022, at a distance of 152,098,455 km," said Andi.

He made it clear that Aphelion had no bearing on whether the temperature on Earth's surface rose or fell. However, climatological or climatic variables also significantly contribute to fluctuations in temperature. According to him, the Sun's intensity fluctuates between 1,321.5 W/m2 at aphelion and 3.4% of its average (1,366 W/m2). Therefore, Andi added, the actual temperature of the Earth's surface will only deviate from the average by about 2.4 degrees Celsius (15 degrees Celsius).
