Rapper Tory Lanez from Canada, guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion by jury

A lawyer for Megan Thee Stallion said after the verdict: “The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg.” Rapper Tory Lanez from Canada is found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion by jury. A Los Angeles jury found Daystar Peterson, the Canadian rapper known as Tory Lanez, guilty on Friday of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet following a dispute in 2020, according to the prosecution.

The 30-year-old Lanez was found guilty by the jury of three felonies: carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a moving vehicle; assault with a semiautomatic handgun; and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm. Lanez may spend more than 20 years in prison and be deported to Canada.

After a pool party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020, Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, then 27 years old, claimed that Lanez shot at her feet. She also said the shooting was preceded by a violent fight in which the two began disparaging each other’s musical accomplishments.

According to Megan Thee Stallion, whose true name is Megan Pete, she required surgery to remove gunshot pieces from her foot.

That judgment was set for January 27. On Friday, Megan Thee Stallion did not appear in court. After a time of house detention, Lanez, who had been released on bond during the trial, was brought into custody.

After roughly two weeks of testimony, the jury deliberated for hours over two days before reaching a judgment on Friday.

After the verdict, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón remarked, “Women, especially Black women, are frightened to report crimes like assault and sexual violence because they are too often not believed.”

He then allegedly pulled out a firearm and started shooting.

The incident was started by Megan’s dismissal of Tory’s musical abilities, according to her testimony in court.

The Savage singer originally claimed to have stepped on shattered glass and wounded herself, according to authorities.

Later, she made the initial claim that Tory had shot her on Instagram.

The couple was once together but later broke up.

Shots Fired

Megan later spoke out about her injuries – saying she needed surgery to remove bullets from her feet which had missed her bones and tendons.

“I know my mama and my daddy and my granny had to be looking out for me with that one, because where the bullets hit at, they missed everything, but they were in there,” she previously said.

Both artists went on to reference the dispute in their work.

In his song Money Over Fallout, Tory suggested the accusations against him were false, saying: “Megan people tryna frame me for a shooting.”

In the same track, he casts doubt on the shooting, asking: “How you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?”

A few months later, Megan released her own song, Shots Fired, which accused Tory of lying “just to save face”, insisting she is the one “speakin’ facts”.
