Akambini “Lakam” Chiu, the sister of actress Kim Chiu, was arrested by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Mandaluyong City on Sunday, September 20, in connection with a qualified theft case involving 124 counts.
Police said Lakam, 45, was arrested at around 4:06 p.m. in Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City, based on a warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 84.
Authorities said the warrant was issued in connection with the 124 counts of qualified theft filed against Chiu. The court set a recommended bail of ₱5.838 million.
The arrest was carried out by QCPD personnel in compliance with the court-issued warrant.
Qualified theft is a criminal offense under Philippine law that generally involves the taking of property without the owner's consent under circumstances that make the offense more serious than ordinary theft.
As of the latest information available, authorities have not provided further details about the alleged theft cases or the circumstances that led to the filing of the charges.
The arrest does not by itself establish guilt, and Chiu remains entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence while the case is pending before the court.
