Calubian National High School Wins Overall Championship at Area III Schools Press Conference 2026

SAN ISIDRO, Leyte — Calubian National High School (CNHS) emerged as the overall champion in the secondary school category of the Area III Schools Press Conference (ASPC) 2026, held on October 17–18 in San Isidro, Leyte.

The school’s strong performance in different campus journalism events showed the hard work and talent of its student journalists, along with the guidance of their coaches and the support of the school community.

CNHS students won several top awards in news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, sports writing, broadcasting, and other journalism events. The school also earned first-place finishes in English news writing, Filipino editorial writing, Filipino sports writing, English and Filipino radio broadcasting, English online desktop publishing, and English television broadcasting.

Among the individual winners, Celina D. Kristensen placed first in English news writing, while Aldrin D. Salino won first place in Filipino feature writing. Jipcy Ann G. Labtic also secured first place in Filipino editorial writing, and Johnriel B. Acaylar won first place in Filipino sports writing.

The school also performed well in broadcasting and digital journalism. Its English and Filipino radio broadcasting teams both won first place, while the English online desktop publishing team and the English television broadcasting team also claimed top honors.

Other CNHS students earned awards in feature writing, science and technology writing, editorial cartooning, photojournalism, copyediting, column writing, mobile journalism, and collaborative desktop publishing. The school also received awards in Filipino online desktop publishing and television broadcasting.

Behind these achievements were the coaches who trained and guided the student journalists throughout their preparation and competition. Their efforts helped the students improve their writing, reporting, broadcasting, and other journalism skills.

The school’s achievement also marked an important step toward the next level of competition. According to the shared announcement, 64 of the 72 CNHS participants qualified for the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026 in Burauen, Leyte.

The qualified students will have another opportunity to show their skills and compete against other campus journalists at the division level.

The success of CNHS at ASPC 2026 highlights the importance of campus journalism in helping students develop their communication skills, creativity, critical thinking, and sense of responsibility in reporting news.

As the students prepare for the division competition, the school community has reason to celebrate their achievement and wish them success in the next stage of their campus journalism journey.
